Scheduling an appointment
- The best way to schedule your appointment is by phone: 607-255-2673. You can call us Monday–Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.
- You may also email us (fsap@cornell.edu) if it's difficult for you to call during our business hours. However, please keep in mind that email is not a secure form of communication, and is not appropriate for confidential or sensitive information.
Types of appointments
- Counseling appointments are generally 45 minutes long, and are currently being conducted by Zoom video session, phone, and in-person.
- Consultation appointments (see below) are generally 30 minutes long, and are scheduled during our regular office hours (Monday–Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm). These appointments are offered for supervisors, managers, and others who are concerned about an employee or workplace situation.
See "What to expect from your appointment" below.
What to expect from your appointment
Counseling appointments:
Your first appointment with an FSAP counselor is considered a "first assessment" appointment, during which we will listen to your concerns, ask questions, and discuss options with you.
If you are interested in ongoing counseling, we will discuss a plan for future meetings. In the event that we believe your concerns are outside the scope of our treatment model – or if you would prefer to see a provider off campus – we can refer you to community providers for care.
Individuals (or couples) engaged in ongoing counseling are eligible for up to 10 counseling sessions within a calendar year. Referrals to local providers can be made for clients who want longer term counseling.
Consultation appointments:
Consultation appointments are offered for supervisors, managers, and others who are concerned about an employee or workplace situation. During consultation appointments, we will listen to your concerns, help you strategize and problem-solve, and can assist you in getting connected with resources.
Cancelling appointments
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please do so at least 24 hours in advance by calling 607-255-2673. We can then give your appointment time to another person seeking support.
NOTE: If you cancel less than 24 hours before your appointment – or fail to go to your appointment – your yearly appointment allotment of 10 sessions may be reduced (by one session per late cancellation / no show).
